Having used 3 Garmin GPSRs (etrex, map60cx & map76csx) & a Delorme PN-40 for Geocaching, we decided to look at a dedicated GPSR for the vehicles. It took several months of reading revues and talking with fellow geocachers before settling on the 1300 or 1400 series. We decided that Bluetooth was not worth the extra $ for the amount that we’d use it. We ordered the 1350 on cyber-monday after the Thanksgiving weekend from an Amazon approved seller at the lowest price available. It arrived in 2 days which was worth the .61 shipping charge.
The good thing about the 1200/1300/1400 series is that you can hold the “Back” button down and jump back to the top menu. We used the 1350 locally and also for a couple of trips to CT and it operates as advertised. We got to see the recommended lane feature in use in the Hartford area. All the features that we tried, worked as advertised. We haven’t encountered the traffic feature, but doubt that it’s available in NH. The verbal notifications were clear and much better than the beeps and bells on the hand held geocaching units. Touch screen makes for an easy learning path on the nuvi’s. Our only complaint is when you have to type in information. The keyboard is small and you need to touch the letters near the bottom. A stylus would have been a big help. Garmin also should have supplied a USB cable to connect to the computer & a screen protector. We had a few USB’s from our other Garmins that were compatible. Being familiar with the Garmin website made uploading firmware and maps easy. We did contact Garmin via email support and received an answer in 24 hours. Based on use for a few months, we would buy it again.

Micro SD card worked just as advertised in my new Garmin NUVI 500. Thought at first I had received the wrong card since it came shipped already in a standard SD adapter and had to be removed from the adapter to use in the 500. No problem and works great. Wondering why manufacturers can’t sell a GPS with all this already loaded?….duh, then we wouldn’t have to spend more money!

I purchased this for my Garmin Vista HCX and the two make an unbeatable combo. I can be on a trail, in the mountains and request a route home. The route will state something like this:
Go north to forest trail 122 (4 miles).
Turn right on forest trail 122.
Go to farm road CO123 (12 miles).
Turn right on I25 (43 miles)
… Arrive at home (123 miles 6.5 hours)
The miles listed are the trail miles and not straight line distance. When I have passed a national forest sign that says Jones Park 1.7 miles and checked the distance on my GPS it matches exactly.
The find feature is good as well. Want to know if there are any hot springs in your hiking area? Do a find on “Hot Spring” and the nearest one will be listed and you can plot a route to it as shown above.
Overall, a very good product that I highly recommend.
