“Excellent choice” 2010-06-22
By Gary Lecureux (Grand Rapids, MI USA)
I had to purchase some alternative to a hammer because I have carpol tunnel and tennis elbow. It was exactly what I needed. Hardly any vibration and no kick back at all. It amazes me every time I drive a nail in with this tool how fast it is. I wish I had bought one a long time ago for hammering in between studs when you don’t have room for a back swing. I’ve also used it to drive in 3 inch drywall screws. I predrilled the material I was hammering of course to avoid splitting. I could have paid less for a cheaper version but I went with the name Bostitch that I was familier with. I thought about the Dewalt and would have paid the extra $15 for it but the Bostich came with a nice case and three different length hammer heads and a spare seal kit.

I let my 81 year old dad borrow it once and he imediately ordered one to.

This is a great tool!

“Thin cover” 2010-05-22
By Atalece Bird (IL USA)
Nailer works well. The leather cover — be careful how you put it on. It was partially buttoned in the package, and so that implied it went on backwards from how it should. Align the opening to the side with the air intake.

My cover ripped when putting it on the first time, obviously, a fault in how thin the leather is. Emailing the Bostitch customer service resulted in receiving an offer for them to replace it… for thirty-six dollars, even though the nailer was brand new. So, I guess don’t expect anything like the leather to be covered under warranty.

“how to put on the leather wrap cover” 2010-04-17
By Pileated Contractor (Portland, OR)
I just got the nailer and haven’t used it yet – but I wanted to give people who have this nailer or who are reading the other reviews some guidance for putting on the leather cover. It seems to be baffling folks – but since my previous palm nailer from Harbor Freight had a similar cover I could figure it out.

Put the silver ring around the nose – then loosely wrap the leather cover around the nailer so that the large hand loop is on the back side. Pass each of the 3 larger straps (they have the ‘male’ side of the snap) from the inside (nailer side) of the ring OUT through the ring and then push them over the edge of the ring to reach each of the female sides of the snaps. They should be at 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. The last one is tough to get it to reach, but it will get there if you pull. Try wetting the leather a little to get it to stretch.

The smaller snaps encircle the male compressor coupler. Again, the last one takes a little work but it will go.

My impression of the nailer is that it seems solid – but it is heavy feeling. I was thinking of getting the PN50 because it weighs just a pound and I only use this for nailing TECO nails (joist hanger nails). I’ll see how it goes on the job…

“Time saver” 2010-03-19
By E. Maltos (Seattle WA)
I was advised from a friend to but this tool for the project I was doing. I was totally surprised at how fast and easily it hammers nails. It’s worth every penny. I have a pancake compressor and if you are nailing at a good pace, my compressor can’t keep up.

“Great nailer for the price” 2010-01-30
By R. M. Rheaume
Great nailer for Do It Yourselfer. Easily drives 10D to 20D nails for framing work. Fits in tight spaces between joists. I do not do enough framing work to justify purchasing a $300 framing nailer. I got this Palm nailer for $100 two or three years ago. I’ve used it several times on projects including finishing my attic. No regrets buying this tool. It will occasionally leak air after driving a nail, but this really has not been a problem and the pnumatics seal well again after driving the next nail.

“The greatest small vacuum to date” 2010-07-07
By Paul Wurster
I was looking for a small “dustbuster” type vacuum for around the house, car, and garage. Previous “dustbuster” experience from the last 30 years of my life has been mixed. The batteries and gusto usually are lacking after a year or so.

Now, things have changed. This is the fifth Makita LXT tool that I have bought. (drill, impact, flashlight, blower) The batteries and charger are very good and charge quickly. They put out enough juice to make this vacuum incredibly capable. The body of the vacuum comes apart with a quarter turn and empties easily without creating much dust. I find that the batteries ( I have the 1.5aH) last for a long time. The inlet is a small round piece that resembles a PVC pipe. It works fine on its own, but it also comes with a tube attachment that turns it into a 3 foot long vacuum cleaner. I was skeptical about this at first, but honestly this is one of the best features. We have barely used our normal vacuum cleaner since getting this. It is so easy to just run around and one hand this light little tool. It is perfect for stairs, hard floor surfaces, and the place under the kids chairs at the table.

I love this little vacuum. My kids love using it, and more importantly the wife is very happy with it. Five stars and my sincerest recommendation.

“HANDS DOWN THE BEST CORDLESS VAC” 2010-07-06
By D. Ford (Brooklyn, NY)
This is hands down the BEST cordless vacuum you can buy. After doing research and going through several Black & Decker rechargeable Dustbuster’s THIS IS THE KING. I purchased the Compact Makita Cordless Drill & Impact set and saw this later on and was intrigued since this will use the same batteries. I was sold on it after Consumer Reports did a test on this and it outscored other comparable models. The floor extension is genius and floats from hardwood to carpet. Although it will not work well on shaggy carpets. DO NOT BE DECEIVED…this vacuum will pick up nuts. bolts, pretty much anything that will fit in the opening. I have done numerous house renovations and this vacuum worked flawlessly! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Purchasing a second one for my Mother In Law who fell in love with it the second she tried it. All they need to do now is create a cradle or mount so this can be place somewhere instead of just leaning against the wall.

“Convenient” 2010-06-21
By Rivers (North America)
I use this for cleaning my RV and it’s fantastic. It won’t clean the dirt deep in your carpet, but it is so handy to to regular pick-up of stuff on the floor or even dust on the counter tops. Don’t expect this to fulfill all your carpet-cleaning needs (unless it’s quite thin carpet).

I use a small battery and it runs for a long time. I usually use it up to five times before needing to recharge.

This is especially great when you already have a Makita drill set or other tools, as this does not some with the battery or charger. However, it is worth getting another battery just so you don’t have to swap it back to your drill all the time.

Also, it is really easy to empty and the filter can easily be washed with just water. (You could EASILY make your own replacement filters.)

“excellent product” 2010-04-17
By Brent D. Martin
This is a lightweight vacuum that is complete with accessories. It fits under and around tight places has a washable filter. This not the vacuum to clean the whole house but is great for spot cleaning and uses the same battery that all the powers the Makita LXT line. The battery charges in 30 minutes and the 3 amp hour battery lasts 20 minutes. It fits under furniture and you don’t have to mess with the cord.

“Good combo, not perfect though” 2010-04-12
By Fly Guy (Northern California, USA)
I’ve used this combo now for a couple of weeks, repairing a small aluminum airplane. I’ve used the drill mostly, the driver only a couple of times. It replaces a 10-year old 9.6v DeWalt drill.

The Makita is a good but not perfect drill. A few small gripes:

1. The 1.5amp-hour Li-Ion battery lasts for maybe 30 mins of use. So, if you’re actively using it, you’ll be swapping/recharging batteries throughout the day. Since it does recharge in 15 mins that not a problem for me, but maybe someday I’ll get the 3.0 amp-hour battery.

2. Working upside down under the airplane wing, the cooling air blows through it at just the right angle to blow in your face along with aluminum cutting chips, unless you swivel the body to a slightly awkward angle. Yeah, that’s an unusual use, but that’s what I used it for these couple of weeks.

3. The LED light is a nice idea, but unfortunately the drill chuck casts a shadow on the drill point. Oh well.

4. I wish the driver had a clutch or some way reducing its tightening force…I don’t want to torque much with an Al aircraft. But it will be handy for removing screws and bolts.

Nevertheless I heartily recommend this drill and combo if you need both. It’s a good value for the money. I got this over its competitors because I wanted the fast recharge. Hope the batteries last!

“Great Power for the Weight” 2010-03-09
By T. Ganz (USA)
Well constructed, with excellent balance, power, and weight. The impact drive is especially powerful, and would highly recommend getting the combo, as the extra cost is totally worth it. The only complaint I have is that the trigger distance between slow and full speed is very small. This isn’t too big of a problem because of the speed selector (on the drill), but I takes a little getting used to after using a NiCd for many years. The case is well designed and compact, and while perhaps not as durable/protective as hard plastic, it stores both drills snuggly, along with charger, and room for a few drill bits. I can’t speak for their drills, but my Milwaukee router and circular saw came in massive, unwieldy cases, so having a soft sided, compact case (that could also double as one manly lunchbox) is nice.

“Well Worth The Money” 2010-04-11
By Terry A. Strother (Baltimore, MD)
I am a custom builder, I have been using this drill/driver for 7 years now. I own 6 of them including the original in the 3 different configurations over the years. As stated I do custom work to last a life time, I use little nails, mainly screws. I have driven thousands of screws (including 4″) with this drill…..NOT ONE PROBLEM. Yes, I had one problem when the original got caught on a ladder and damaged the trigger switch, $12.64 later it was as good as new.

Lots of torque and light weight the perfect package……GET THIS ONE!!!

“Great small drill” 2010-03-18
By Richard Glaze (Doniphan, Mo USA)
I needed a battery for my Makita but the price was as much as this drill. So, I retired my 25 year old Makita and bought this one. Turned out to be a good match. Plenty of power and lightweight.

“Perfect Drill and combo” 2010-03-17
By A. Gift For You (Huntsville, AL)
I purchased this Hitachi drill combo because I already had one just like it. It performs perfectly and is the right size and has the power for the projects I do. The batteries have a long life, I’vs had the first one for about five years and it is still as strong as the day I bought it. The price was right on this combo as a special value from Amazon and it was too good to pass up. You won’t be disappointed.

“Hitachi DS12DVF3 12-Volt” 2010-02-25
By Gary D. Conner (Richmond, Va.)
Ok drill for puttering around the house and that’s about it. I purchased it because my 12-volt Pany’s batteries were dying. I love Amazon and have purchased many hand and power tools over the years from them but this purchase was from Lowe’s. They had it on sale for $59. I check the power tool prices on Amazon, nightly, but it appears there are no deals to be had anymore there! In my opinion, if their price is not at least 60% off, it is not a good deal and you can find it cheaper somewhere else. This is more of a review for Amazon than the Hitachi drill as you can tell! I love shopping there, but for some reason, the prices aren’t competitive anymore. Yeah! You might be able to grab something, on occasion, but that’s about it. Check your local prices before you buy! Hello Amazon! Home Depot and Lowe’s are now matching or selling many of your items cheaper! Comments are welcome!

“Hitachi DS12DVF3 cordless drill/driver kit” 2010-02-06
By Blade Runner (Sebastopol, CA)
I am very pleased with this kit. The smaller size of the drill is particularly handy and yet is has plenty of power for the jobs I have used it for. The light was very useful during a recent power failure. Overall, well worth the price.
