I have a 2001 Tacoma extended cab, factory stereo, my front speakers were factory 6×8, I decided on the reference 5020 because they were on sale, I could’ve go for the 6820cs but decided not to. I made some plates out of 1/4″ mdf and minor modification was required to mount the tweeters, the crossovers were installed behind the door panel.
The sound:
Having a smaller area on these 5 1/4 speakers vs the 6×8, the bass does not go that low, I played test tones from 20Hz to 20kHz, at 20Hz, the speaker does move, but because of the small footprint it does not move any air, at 50hz and up the rattling in the door frame is very noticeable. Overall, they sound is clear, I liked the highs, and I asume that after I soundproof the doors (dynamat) the mid bass will improve and avoid the rattling. The next step after the Dynamat will be to install an amp and an 8″ subwoofer, I’m shooting for sound quality. I liked the speakers, I feel that is a good improvement over the stock speakers, If your looking for 50 to 100 Hz response, go with a larger size.

Simply put, these speakers will knock your face off. I had 4 of these (2 front, 2 back) installed in my Mustang that replaced my old Pioneer 6×8’s. What an upgrade. The difference was night and day. I use the Infinity’s as my source of mids and highs with 2 12″ Kicker Comp VR’s for my lows. I can’t make a judgment on how these produce bass, because that’s not what I use them for. I also have these speakers powered by a Power Acoustik 4-channel amp to really give em’ some juice. The clarity of these speakers just amazes me daily. My bass used to overpower the rest of the sound with my old Pioneers. Now I can hear singing, drums, and guitar extremely clearly, even with the bone shaking bass that I have going and all with zero distortion. My only complaint is that I wish I would have bought these sooner. I got 2 pairs off of eBay for each, brand new. Try bargain shopping before you shell out 0 a pair for these. Even though they’re worth their full retail price, you can get them pretty cheap.
